Internship Profile: History
Jessica Foulke, a freshman from Lawrence, Kan., experienced a summer internship with the Kansas Democratic Party in Topeka. Jessica’s duties included data entry, research and creating a “Political Fun Book” that tested her knowledge of Kansas political history. Jessica hopes to return to the Party next summer; she is looking forward to learning from many new experiences in the upcoming election year.

History major Luke Chennell completed a variety of writing projects
during his academic career, including a paper that was awarded first place
in Category II of the Awards for Scholarly Papers in History competition sponsored
by the Kansas History Teachers Association (KHTA).
“Deus le Volt? Crusade Historiography” is a historical
analysis of the 20th century historians who have studied the Crusades, a series
of wars that took place between the 11th and 13th centuries as Western European
Christians tried to recapture the Holy Land from the Muslims.
According to Dr. Gary Entz, assistant professor of history,
Luke competed with students from all levels of higher education in Kansas
ranging from community colleges to the large state universities. “He
represents the best of everybody,” stressed Entz.
