Senior Research

Senior research is an important part of the McPherson College experience. Matthew Marcus and Peter Samlund completed individual projects, which were presented to the campus community. Each presentation represented the culmination of four year’s work toward a degree in computer science. Matthew’s senior project demonstrated how 3D animation and modeling is completed using 3D Studio Max. Through the use of PHP and PostgreSQL on a Red Hat Linux web server, Peter demonstrated the ability to enter data and have it automatically posted on a forum that is available to the world.

Mathematics major Amy Gremmer also presented findings that focused on the topic “Becoming an Actuary.” While describing the role insurance companies play in our society, she specifically demonstrated the key role that actuaries fulfill in the development of insurance programs. Her presentation included background information about the field of actuarial science, along with sample applications involving calculus and statistics.
