Music Theatre
The music and theatre departments share students and cooperate each
year to stage a musical. This year’s production is George Stiles' Honk! Past performances have included H.M.S. Pinafore, Into the
Woods, Music Man, Oklahoma, Sound of Music, Brigadoon, Company and other
well-known musical theatre productions.
European Music Tour
Each generation of students (about every four years) has the opportunity
to travel to Europe in late May/early June for an international
music tour. Traditionally, the 30-day tour allows the group to stay
in an area for three to four days, performing a formal concert,
staying with host families, and seeing the sights that area has
to offer. Students grow through this opportunity for cultural interaction
brought about through the language of music.
Spring Music Tour
Each year choral and instrumental ensembles tour during the spring
term. These concerts bring the college to churches, schools, and
communities where alumni live. A typical visit includes an evening
meal and concert at a church, an overnight stay and breakfast with
host families, and a school and/or community program the next day,
followed by travel to the next stop. As the group travels to other
parts of the country, opportunity is taken for recreation at local
attractions. Students look forward to this travel opportunity each
year.
Kansas
City Renaissance Festival
Small instrumental and vocal ensembles journey into the past. Performing
in costume, vocalists and instrumentalists sing and play Renaissance
(1450-1600) madrigals, motets, rounds, and dances. Students experience
a time long gone and play the role of musicians from another time
period.
