Blake Jett – junior, Fort Worth, TX

Blake Jett has distinguished himself both on and off the field in his three years at McPherson College. As goalie for the McPherson College Bulldogs soccer team, he had a program high eight shutouts in 2009. He was named All-KCAC Honorable Mention Goalkeeper in 2010, KCAC Goalkeeper of the Year in 2009, All-KCAC First Team in 2009 and KCAC Defensive Player of the Year in 2009.

Away from the soccer field, Blake teamed up with his friend Samuel Tucker, sophomore, Thornton, Colo., to follow their dream of creating a fashionable T-shirt company that would support charitable causes with a large portion of each sale. They were some of the first recipients of a Horizon Fund micro-grant in fall of 2010 to make their first T-shirts. The fund provides up to $500 to a student or group of students with a great idea to do good. Now the two are starting a business account, researching manufactures and bringing in more partners. He said the concept would still be in the idea phase without the fund.

“It inspires people to follow their dreams - what they always wanted to do,” said Blake. “The Horizon Fund grant made me believe the phrase, ‘Impossible is nothing.’”
