Tank named honorable mention All-American

McPherson, Kan. – McPherson College men’s soccer sophomore Tyler Tank hauled in another honor this week as the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) named him to the honorable mention All-American team. The NAIA Men’s Soccer All-American Selection Committee selected members of the All-American teams. The announcement was released a few weeks after Tank had been awarded Defensive Player of the Year and First Team All-KCAC honors.

“This is a very deserving honor for Tyler,” said McPherson College head soccer coach Doug Quint. “He was our defensive general and without him, we don’t have the success that we had. It’s amazing what we have accomplished here in the two years with him in the backline. He has a KCAC record of 15-2-1 with two championships and an NAIA National Tournament berth. All this has happened with him being an underclassman. That in itself says a lot about his ability.”

Tank, a 6-5 198-pound sophomore from Austin, Texas, anchored a back line that allowed a school record nine goals and a McPherson College record 10 shutouts. The 2009 KCAC Defensive Player of the Year, Tank started 16 matches.

The Bulldogs finished 2009 with a 15-2 overall mark and 9-0 record in KCAC play. McPherson’s seasoned ended when they were defeated in the semifinals of the KCAC tournament by Friends University, 2-1.

Tyler is the son of Darrell and Teresa Tank of Austin, Texas. He is majoring in accounting and finance at McPherson College.
