Regional Youth Conference Weekend

McPherson College will once again be hosting Regional Youth Conference the weekend of March 4th through the 6th. Every year the college invites youth from the Northern, Southern and Western Plains Districts of the Church of the Brethren to join in a weekend of fellowship, community building and outright fun. This year will be no different.

Organized and run by the Campus Ministries team, and with the help of college students, the weekend will include group sessions, service projects and fellowship all revolving around the theme “Seeing God.”

The sessions, which will be led by Steve Van Houten, pastor of the Springfield Church of the Brethren in Akron, Ohio, and Becky Ullom, Director of Identity and Relations for the General Board of the Church of the Brethern, will focus on ways the participants can see God through everyday things, like music, art and activities on the campus of McPherson College.

Most of the weekend will be held in the newly built chapel area in the basement of the student union. The weekend will include the focus sessions as well as music led by Seth Hendricks and Michael Good. When the youth are not in focus sessions, they will be participating in local service projects as well as games and other activities.

A Saturday night concert will be a highlight of the weekend. Dakona, a band nominated for modern rock album of the year in the 35th annual GMA Dove awards, will present a concert at 9 p.m. at the McPherson High School auditorium. The concert will be a free, community-wide event open to RYC participants, as well as area churches and McPherson-area residents.

On Sunday, March 6, RYC youth will lead the McPherson Church of the Brethren in its regular worship service at 10 a.m.

Shawn Flory Replogle, Co-Pastor of the McPherson Church of the Brethren and Campus Pastor for McPherson College, says he hopes to have about 50 youth participate in RYC this year. The campus ministries team includes Replogle, Tracy Stoddart, resident director of Dotzour Hall and Kelli Johnson, personal counselor at McPherson College.
