Hagerty Establishes MC Scholarships
Hagerty Insurance, the nation’s largest collector car insurance agency, has established three scholarships that will benefit McPherson College students enrolled in the four-year automotive restoration program. Specifically, the scholarships are funded by donation of a portion of each Hagerty Protection Network membership, harnessing the power of a large, dedicated community of enthusiasts to benefit the hobby.
“We’re using the power of Hagerty Protection Network membership to give back,” said McKeel Hagerty, president of Hagerty Insurance. “Based on our first-hand experience with the members’ dedication to the hobby and its future, we know that the Hagerty Fund will accomplish great things.” The Fund’s assets grow continuously, as every month more and more enthusiasts join the Hagerty Protection Network. This unique situation allows the Fund to actively focus its efforts on grant making, not fundraising.
The Hagerty Fund scholarships will be awarded to students representing three levels of student classification: incoming freshman, sophomore, and junior. An additional scholarship for a senior student is planned for 2005. Each scholarship will be an annual renewable award of $5,000. Visit www.hagertyfund.org for criteria and application information.
McPherson College’s renowned automotive restoration technology program integrates theory and research with practical experience in restoring antique or special-interest vehicles. Students acquire skills needed by doing hands-on restoration in a 33,000 square foot facility equipped with specialized equipment and tools. The Hagerty Fund for Historic Vehicle Preservation and Education is dedicated to promoting the preservation and growth of the collector car hobby by supporting restoration and design education, youth focused activities, collector car safety programs, and automotive libraries and museums. The Hagerty Fund is organized through the Grand Traverse Regional Community Foundation, a charitable public foundation dedicated to facilitating philanthropy by supporting a diverse collection of funds.
