Claire Krizek, McPherson College senior, McPherson, Kan., was recently named the recipient of a prestigious scholarship given to only one student in Kansas every year.
The Kansas Society of CPAs annually awards the John J Killian Scholarship, named for the society's first full-time executive director. The scholarship goes to a full-time accounting major in their junior year at an independent Kansas college or university.
Krizek will graduate from McPherson College in 2013 with a bachelor's of science in business administration with an emphasis in accounting and finance. She has served as the president of the McPherson College Business Club and the treasurer of the McPherson College Student Government Association. Her internships have included time at Adams, Brown, Beran & Ball, Chartered, in McPherson, Kan., and Flint Hill Resources in Wichita, Kan., a part of KOCH industries. She was also selected by KOCH Industries for a second consecutive internship.
David O'Dell, professor of accounting, said he read scholarship applications in previous years when he was on the Kansas Education Foundation board and that most of the applicants are top-notch scholars and model citizens.
"Claire has consistently been an example of a good leader," O'Dell said. "Her supervisor at KOCH from last summer told me that Claire is an excellent employee and a quick learner. She was very impressed with her abilities."
