McPherson College Offers Kansas Premiere Of 'Love, Loss, and What I Wore'

posted Nov 26, 2012 in CAMPUS EVENTS

Those who attend the Midwest and Kansas premiere of "Love, Loss, and What I Wore" at McPherson College might want to compare notes with those who go the other nights. With a different cast of actors performing each night, each of the three shows will have its own distinct style.

Jd. Bowman, associate professor of theatre and director of the production, said the play was written to have a rotating cast.

"I think it's written like this to show that the cast are not specific people," he said. "They represent all people, all times, all stories."

The play was written by Nora Ephron – well-known for screenplays such as "When Harry Met Sally…", "Sleepless in Seattle," and "Julie & Julia" – and her sister Delia Ephron – known for works such as "You've Got Mail" and "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants." The show is a series of monologues based on the 1995 book of the same name by Ilene Beckerman. The monologues explore women's relationships, their wardrobe style, and the intersection of the two – using clothes as a way to explore the women's pasts.

The show recently closed off-Broadway after a three-year run of about 1,100 performances.

"Love, Loss, and What I Wore" is showing at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 6-8 in Mingenback Theatre at McPherson College. Seating is limited, with priority given to season ticket holders. Tickets to all shows cost $5 for adults and $3.50 for children ages high school and younger as well as seniors. Reservations may be made by contacting the theatre box office at 620-242-0444 or at
