Internship Profile: Philosophy & Religion

While serving as the interim youth minister at the McPherson Church of the Brethren, Marie Rhoades was instrumental in planning service trips to provide opportunities for students to participate in cross-cultural interaction and outreach.

The mission of McPherson College, which includes a service component, gave Marie the inspiration and support to design a service program that would include her peers. One spring break they traveled to Lybrook, New Mexico, to work at a Native American outreach mission.

There they completed various beautification projects and learned about the struggles and hardships experienced by the Navajo people. When choosing a service project, Marie is sensitive to the needs of many – the oppressed, the elderly, those in poverty, and youth. She strives to make each project unique and meaningful to all involved.
