Internship Profile: Physical Education
Kenny
Romero is working towards a degree that will include
involvement with youth. Kenny was able to acquire hands-on
experience officiating in two different sports and organizing a round
robin basketball tourney for 4th grade through high school
participants. Additionally, Kenny worked with licensed officials, Al
Ortega and David Barrett. These licensed officials critiqued Kenny's
officiating techniques and were able to provide him feedback to
improve his officiating. Kenny also was responsible for organizing
activities for games and tournaments, coordinating team and
referee schedules, and developing pool and bracket play.
Kenny enjoyed his internship experience and learned the
importance of the official being in charge of the game, and that the
official's point of view is much different than the participants. Roger
Trimmell felt this internship also gave Kenny a dose of reality in
handling parent and coaches complaints. By working with Career
Connections, Kenny felt he was able to get hands-on experience to
help him out with future jobs.
