First Annual Fall Reception for Spanish Majors and Minors
At the reception, we welcomed back the Spanish majors and minors and introduced them to the incoming Spanish majors and minors. Another purpose of the reception was to encourage support and camaraderie as students move through the Spanish program. Two door prizes were awarded: two tickets to see Los Lobos on October 18. In addition, Victoria de la Torre shared with the group her topic for her Spanish senior thesis. Victoria will be exploring the theme of organ trafficking in Latin America and the United States. We also talked about other upcoming events: a weekend trip to Salina to see the art exhibit of Max-Carlos Martinez, as well as a trip to Moundridge to the tortillería.
Those in attendance were: (l to r) Juliana Escobar, Melisa Grandison, Rebecca Grosbach, Bryce Jech, Mira Coulter, Victoria de la Torre, José Arenas, Bryanna Daniels, Rikki Viehman, and Mallory Griggs (not pictured).

Students from Dr. Kilgus’ Spanish I and III class, including Dr. Gary Entz, traveled to the Oklahoma City Museum of Art on November 11 to view “The Baroque World of Fernando Botero.” Botero’s work is internationally recognized for his use of vibrant colors and rotund figures. The Oklahoma City Museum of Art was selected as one of the few cities to host Botero’s traveling exhibit from his own private collection of oils and sculptures.
