Academic Honors in Spanish
Beginning with the spring 2007 honors convocation, the Modern Languages Department initiated an award to recognize two students who have proved themselves exemplary models for the Spanish major throughout the academic school year.
The first award recognizes a first or second-year declared Spanish major chosen by the Modern Languages Department as demonstrating great promise as a student of Spanish. The recipient of the Most Promising Spanish Major award must demonstrate (1) commitment to learning and speaking the language both in and out of the classroom, (2) service to the Spanish-speaking community, (3) excellent class attendance, and (4) a GPA of 3.0 or above.
The second award recognizes an upper-level Spanish major chosen by the Modern Languages Department as the most outstanding student in Spanish. The recipient of Outstanding Spanish Major award must demonstrate (1) commitment to speaking the language both in and out of the classroom, (2) service to the Spanish-speaking community, (3) excellent class attendance, (4) a GPA of 3.5 or above, and (5) one travel excursion or language immersion or study abroad experience during the course of his/her studies at McPherson College.
