The mission of the McPherson College Teacher Education Program is to develop service-oriented educators who effectively blend the art and science of teaching.
As one of the most popular programs on campus, the Teacher Education Program provides outstanding preparation for careers in elementary education and secondary education. Students may also prepare for an additional endorsement in special education and/or English as a Second Language. All of this can be accomplished in four academic years.
Students learn by applying their knowledge during practica and student teaching in classrooms throughout the McPherson area. Starting as early as the freshman year, students are involved in a variety of settings. They observe and assist teachers in the classroom and they also have opportunities to practice formal teaching skills. This training culminates with a semester-long student teaching assignment during the senior year.
Best of all, students learn from faculty and fellow students who bring years of experience, a wealth of knowledge, and a passion for education to the classroom.
