Based on the classic Greek tragedy about the determined daughter of Oedipus, this modern adaptation parallels many of today’s political happenings. Specifically, “Antigone” explores what beliefs are important enough to individuals that they would sacrifice their lives to support those beliefs.
The production serves as a senior project for cast member Janell Klenke. Klenke, a theatre major from Dodge City, has chosen to complete her capstone experience in acting, which has involved examining the script with the director, creating the approach to the show, and setting goals for the production.
Other cast members include Heidi Bailey, Versailles, Ohio; Akeisha Kaufman, Moundridge; Lara Lichty, Quinter; Maribeth Turner, Olsburg; Travis Walker, Coffeyville; and McPherson residents Brandt Busse, Althea Harding, Alicia Schoen, and Alex Tyler.
The play is directed by Kathryn Whitacre, a McPherson resident and 1981 graduate of McPherson College. Dr. Rick Tyler, professor of theatre, served as faculty advisor for the technical process and 2000 graduate Jen Taylor provided leadership in costume design.
