Unique in the world of theatre, this show features two actors sitting side by side, reading their life-long collection of letters to each other. Beginning with birthday party thank you notes the audience follows their relationship through summer camp postcards, college day letters, wedding invitations, and career-change announcements.
The play will feature a different couple each performance. Actors include college students Brandt Busse, McPherson; Lois Davidson, Mt. Ida; James Keith, Mesa, Ariz., Amanda Snell; McPherson. College faculty and staff members scheduled to perform include Shane Kirchner, assistant professor of theatre; Anne Kirchner, communications assistant; Dr. Rick Tyler, professor of theatre; and Karlene Tyler, associate dean of academics.
Dr. Tyler anticipates the actors will provide varying interpretations of the script based on their personal lives – college students experiencing new beginnings, parents raising young children, and parents dealing with the empty nest syndrome.
By casting individuals from different age groups, Dr. Tyler intends to use the show as an educational tool for students and theatre patrons alike. “There is power in words,” he noted. “And when presented by individuals who have had various life experiences, the results can be even more powerful.”
