McPherson College welcomes applications for the position of Grounds/Maintenance Technician.

A Grounds/Maintenance Technician is a full-time staff member of the Facilities Management department. This is a non-exempt or hourly position and is eligible for a generous employee benefits package.

As a staff member, a Grounds/Maintenance Technician is expected to work toward the objectives of the Facilities Management department.   This position provides a wide variety of support to maintain the upkeep and structural integrity of all campus facilities and grounds. Responsibilities would include, but are not limited to performing tasks that maintain the campus lawns, trees, shrubs, flower beds, and water sprinkler systems, organizing a plan for snow removal and leading this job function, and maintaining grounds equipment such as mowers, snow blowers, rototillers, etc. Additional duties include monitoring trash pickup and managing the application of chemical fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides. Light maintenance and repairs on electrical, plumbing and HVAC grounds equipment, technical and diagnostic duties and any construction task, including carpentry, on campus buildings. A grounds/maintenance technician must be able to work in a team environment as well as external contractors, display excellent customer service skills at all times and complete duties within deadlines.

A grounds/maintenance technician will be expected to work 40 hours per week – 8am to 5pm, Monday through Friday. Additional day, evening and occasional weekend hours may be required.

Some tasks may be performed in adverse environmental conditions such as wind, rain, ice and snow or may exposure the grounds/maintenance technician to dust, pollen, bacteria or mold.

Knowledge, skills and abilities include:

  1. High School Diploma or equivalency. College degree is preferred.
  2. Five years of skill-related experienced is required. May substitute part of the required experience with two years of technical training.
  3. Ability to use basic word processing and spreadsheet programs is required.       Some knowledge of computer-based HVAC scheduling and energy management and control.
  4. Ability and willingness to understand and communicate with others including people with diverse opinions and values.
  5. Demonstrate leadership abilities and the embodiment of the college mission related to Scholarship, Participation, and Service.
  6. The ability to lift, carry, push and/pull objectives and materials of a medium weight up to 50 lbs.

The Admissions Operations Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management of the admissions and financial aid offices. Tasks include but are not limited to organizing of campus visits and visit days, ordering inventory, completing daily mail log, managing the front reception desk including promptly answering calls, coding of invoices and receipts, preparing cost reports, maintaining records, and overseeing the work of student workers.

McPherson College is seeking a collaborative and pioneering leader for the position of VP for Student Life and Dean of Students.  The VP designs and coordinates student-driven programs with faculty, Student Life team members and college-wide stakeholders, that attract potential students, enhance student development, promote retention and enrich the academic experience for all its students.  This position leads itsteam-based approach to support the innovative design and delivery of student lifeprogramming in a variety of creative and engaging modalities. This position will effectively leverage existing resources while envisioning the future of a strategically planned residential campus. The VP will be aware of current trends in higher education and evaluate emerging practices and resources that align with the college’s strategic priorities. The VP supervises several staff including career, service and pastoral services, serves on the college president’s cabinet and reports directly to the college president.

Assistant Professor in Performing ArtsMusic and Director of Choral Activities

McPherson College seeks an Assistant Professor in Performing ArtsMusic and Director of Choral Activities. This is a tenure-track appointment with a beginning date of 16 August 2017.

This position is responsible for developing and maintaining a high-level collegiate vocal program as well as preparing and teaching a wide variety of music courses that make up the vocal music portion of the Performing Arts Music and Music Education degree programs. Teaching assignments (in addition to general choir and a select vocal ensemble) include Sight-Singing/Ear-Training, Vocal Education Methods, Conducting, and Applied Vocal Lessons. This position also provides vocal music direction for the oneor two musical theatre productions offered by the department per year. 

The successful candidate will demonstrate potential for teaching excellence, function successfully in a small college environment, and possess a commitment to the liberal arts.

A master’s degree in vocal music and experience in music education are required. A doctoral degree and teaching experience are preferred. Knowledge of musical theatre methods and experience in musical theatre is preferred.

Assistant Professor of Communication

This is an entry-level, tenure-track, nine-month appointment which starts in August 2017 for an assistant professor in communication with a specialty in media writing. This position is eligible for college benefits.

McPherson College is seeking bus drivers to drive a 25-passenger shuttle bus. These positions are temporary, nonexempt or hourly positions with no expectation of college benefits. These positions report directly the Athletic Department.

Responsibilities will include: operating a passenger bus and transporting McPherson College students and authorized personnel safely and efficiently over specified routes to and from various activities. Position conducts pre-trip inspections; observes safety regulations and policies; enforces discipline on the bus; and performs related work.
