Athletic Dept Update for Students and Parents

Dear Student Athlete,

The events of the last month have been unprecedented in the world of college athletics and higher education. The situation changes daily and we are adjusting to new challenges, but our focus remains on the safety and welfare of our students and student-athletes at McPherson College. As a prospective McPherson College student athlete, I want to share with you few ways the McPherson College Athletic Department is supporting our students during this time.

The McPherson College coaches stepped up to the challenge when the NAIA cancelled all spring sport seasons and championships and when it was announced that the remainder of the spring semester would be completed remotely. They have adapted to this situation and continue to impress me with their efforts and hard work during this time. They are checking in with student-athletes to ensure they are equipped and adequately prepared to finish their classes at home. McPherson College, the athletic department, and coaching staffs are committed to our students finishing this semester strong and graduating our seniors.

We continue to highlight Bulldog success throughout this year on social media. I love reliving the success of our student-athletes and all they have accomplished this year. We want to celebrate our students, their teammates, and our coaches. Be sure to follow us and join us in celebrating the success our programs achieved this year!

Follow us on social media:

The Athletic Department is supporting student-athletes in several ways as we complete this semester including weekly “virtual” team check-in’s, communication around workout programs, academic monitoring, and personal “how are you doing?” conversations. I have thoroughly enjoyed seeing our student-athletes all together again, even if it is on a computer screen. I am sure many of you feel the same way about missing your teammates. We miss our Bulldogs and they want to be BACK on campus.

As you start to think about the fall, I want to leave you with this statement:

McPherson College is committed to every sport competing in 2020-21
– We are regularly involved in discussions with the NAIA to make sure your seasons take place during the 2020-2021 academic year.

We are looking forward to seeing YOU compete in McPherson Stadium, Sport Center, The Kennel, Bulldog Park, and the Doris Coppick/Holman Courts soon.

It is a GREAT day to be a Bulldog!

Academic Checkpoints
Academic Monitoring

Faculty report grades at three points in the fall and spring semesters:

Five Weeks: Faculty only report D’s and F’s at the end of the first five weeks. This is a preliminary grade intended to alert students and advisors to poor academic performance while there is still time to address issues and get the student the help needed to be successful.

Midterm: All grades are reported at midterm, halfway through the semester. Midterm grades represent progress made to that point.
If a student is struggling after five-week or midterm grades, the Center for Academic Development (CAD) team will work to connect students with available academic support resources.

Final: Final grades are reported at the end of each term and become a permanent part of a student’s transcript.

Note: Because interterm courses are a condensed term of study, they do not report five-week or midterm grades. However, academic support resources are available during interterm.

Attendance Monitoring: Faculty are encouraged to record attendance for students in their courses. CAD staff monitors these reports and reaches out to students with repeated absences.
