Adjunct Instructor Technical Theater

McPherson College’s Department of Theatre seeks a qualified instructor to teach Technical Theater II with a focus on Costume Construction, Stage Makeup and Prop Building, beginning the spring 2025 semester.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Prepare syllabus and teach assigned course based on course outline.
  • Complete course paperwork such as attendance reports and grade postings.
  • Evaluate and return student work in a timely fashion, providing helpful feedback for improvement.
  • Use active-learning pedagogy, engaging students through a studio approach to methodologies.
  • Be prepared to adjust teaching modality as needed.

The Course Description includes:

  • TH270 Technical Theater II: Dressing the Stage
  • 3 hours, Tuesday & Thursday
  • The study of a wide variety of “craft/skills” used when preparing a script for performance. The student work will focus on basic costume construction, basic makeup and early prop-making techniques. The student will work on productions to be staged by the department during the current season. The course carries a $30 lab and equipment fee. This is a required course for Theatre majors as well as a suggested class for Theatre minors and a former general education course for Arts Aesthetics & Appreciation.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Theatre or a related field; or work experience in the field of professional Theatre is required.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience teaching at the post-secondary level

Salary:

  • Commensurate with academic credentials
