McPherson College is seeking an energetic multi-tasker to join its Center for Academic Development (CAD) team. The Athletic Academic Support Specialist will help develop and implement academic support services for the college’s undergraduates with a special emphasis on at-risk student-athletes.
The Athletic Academic Support Specialist is a full-time, exempt position. The successful applicant will be eligible for college benefits and will report to the Director of Academic Development.
The ideal candidate is capable of engaging diverse student populations in a fast-paced environment and working across the campus community to foster and support student persistence.
The Athletic Academic Support Specialist’s responsibilities will include collaborating with athletics to help support and monitor the academic success of student-athletes; assist in the development and implementation of a peer mentoring program for at-risk student-athletes, working with peer tutors to coordinate supplemental instruction, individual tutoring, group tutoring, writing center services, and academic workshops; helping to provide academic support services for students with disabilities; and assisting in Early Warning Team and department retention efforts.
The ideal candidate would possess at least one year of experience working with at-risk students from diverse backgrounds in residential life or academic support in a higher educational setting and have earned a bachelor’s degree. Experience as a college student-athlete and with peer mentoring programs is preferred. College-level writing, math, and science skills are expected. Additionally, excellent interpersonal communication skills are essential and proficiency in using Microsoft Office products is expected. Advanced-level ability with Excel is desirable.
