Is your passion set and costume design for a major musical production, presenting a recital on a 9 foot Steinway grand piano or traveling the United States or Europe on a choir or band tour?
Our students participate in all aspects of creativity through the performing arts program at McPherson College including – box office sales, marketing and publicity, set construction, section leaders, student conductors, solo and small ensemble performances and dinner theatre.

From the Performing Arts faculty:
“Throughout history, whenever humans have been faced with the ultimate questions of life and existence, they have relied upon music in their search for meaning. So I am passionate about teaching music and strive to pass on my love of music to my students. I have high expectations for my students to succeed at whatever their individual skill level is. I want them to experience music at its best so they can experience life at its best.”
“I like to tell jokes. I look for the humor in almost every situation. I use humor as a way to deflect attention, but I also use humor to make points about life that might be a little too harsh otherwise. If you can laugh at it, you can live with it. I like music, art and theatre. I am passionate about Queer Studies and feminism as well as LGBTQ and Civil Rights. I usually run late to appointments. It’s not out of disrespect; rather, I see time as flexible. I’m ferociously private. I will share “personal” stories that are generic to put others at ease and help give them a sense of connectedness. But, I won’t share things that I don’t want to share. No matter what, I care for my students passionately. I believe that once you’re part of the McPherson family, you’re family for life.”
“Students deserve exceptional instruction and are to be acquainted only with the finest music literature, pedagogical materials, and methodologies. I believe students deserve superb instructors who are themselves exceptional musicians, scholars, and mentors. As a professor, I must cultivate a safe and inclusive learning environment in which students are actively engaged and high expectations are the norm.”
