McPherson College hit a total of 622 full-time students this fall - the highest level seen in 40 years and representing a nearly 15 percent increase in enrollment over last year, according to official statistics calculated by the college.
In addition to the 622 full-time students, there are another 85 part-time students. This results in a total head count of 707 students. This means the college’s total full-time equivalent is 689.
Last year, the college had 542 full-time students. Last year’s total head count was 629 and full time equivalent was 601.
The enrollment numbers include 255 new freshman and transfer students (compared to 197 last year) and 367 returning students – keeping the college at a similar retention rate to last year.
Dave Barrett, vice president of admissions, said the strategy for student recruitment has been to get in front of as many students as possible, get information on the college in their hands and get them on campus to visit - all to help them make an educated decision.
“I think our entire campus community did these things,” Barrett said. “We also brought in students that we chose and just as important they chose McPherson College.”
