The very best of McPherson College student artwork is on display through the end of February in a professional venue – the Visual Arts Alliance of McPherson, located in the McPherson Opera House.
This is the fourth biennial art exhibition, which started in 2004, at the McPherson Opera House, 223 S. Main St., McPherson, Kan. About 60 works are on display through Feb. 26 in a variety of media.
Wayne Conyers, professor of art, said the exhibit gives the quality work produced by students at the college an opportunity to be seen in a valuable space.
“You’re talking about producing work on a level that is a step above,” Conyers said. “It’s about getting our best work out into the public and presenting it in a professional manner.”
Elizabeth Liljengren, board member of the visual arts alliance and gallery chair, said the show gives students the opportunity to experience the world of art beyond campus. The quality of the work show the quality of teaching at the college, she said.
“I see students who have very good instructors,” Liljengren said. “Good teaching is going on. The students are focused and committed. We really appreciate the art department at McPherson College being willing to work with us on this every two years. We’re glad to do it and they’re great to work with.”
The gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The public is invited to a closing reception from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 26.
