McPherson College Celebrates Homecoming

McPherson College will celebrate Homecoming October 13-14 with activities for alumni as well as community members that range from fine arts and lectures to cars and run/walk/bike events.

A complete schedule of events for the weekend is available on the McPherson College website at www.mcpherson.edu/homecoming. In addition to the traditional Homecoming class reunions, football game and royalty coronation, there are several other events that will interest McPherson community members.

On Friday, October 13 the McPherson College CARS Club will host a classic vehicle cruise-in on Main Street beginning at 6 p.m. Students, alumni and community members are encouraged to bring their classic vehicles and be a part of the event, and at 7 p.m., the Rapid Assembly T-Build Team of the automotive restoration department will demonstrate how quickly it can assembly and start-up a Model-T.

Faculty Lectures will take place on Saturday, October 14 at 10 a.m. in Mohler Hall. Joe Dickhudt, associate professor of technology, will present, “Apollo Space Program in Perspective: Looking back 50 years,” in Mohler 231, and Herb Smith, professor of philosophy and religion, will present, “Global Christianity,” in the Mohler 212. Both lectures are free and open to the public.

A new activity this year will take place earlier on Saturday at 8:15 a.m. when alumni and community members are invited to participate in a 1K (Bull)DOG Walk that will begin near the Gazebo. No registration is required for participants and their dogs to take part in this fun walk.

Other public events during Homecoming include:

  • Artist Reception for Faculty/Staff Art Show in Friendship Hall – Friday, 3:30-5 p.m.
  • Theatre Production – Charley’s Aunt in Brown Auditorium – Friday and Saturday, 7:30 p.m.
  • Art Ray 5K Run beginning near the Gazebo – Saturday, 8 a.m.
  • Pedals for Paul beginning near the Gazebo – Saturday, 9 a.m.
  • Choir Concert at Church of the Brethren – Sunday, 2 p.m.
