McPherson College Announces Honors Program

McPherson College is launching a new honors program that will provide high-achieving students with opportunities for intellectual exploration, meaningful participation and civic engagement, along with an additional $2,500 academic scholarship. The McPherson College Honors Collective is a selective community designed for students who want to go beyond the traditional college experience.

Students selected for the Honors Collective will receive major-based advising beginning in their first year and priority registration during enrollment. They also may apply for additional course load without paying overload fees. An honors faculty director will help students explore postgraduation opportunities, and mini-grants will be available to support academic-related exploration.

“The Honors Collective isn’t simply about having a strong GPA or test score,” said Becki Bowman, Honors Collective faculty director. “We are looking for students who are curious, engaged, motivated, and ready to make the most of their college experience.”

The Honors Collective will offer designated courses for honors students, along with additional programming including after-hours workshops, shared reading experiences, and travel experiences across the state.

After applying for general admission to the college, students may submit a separate application to the Honors Collective. Applicants must meet at least four of the seven eligibility criteria and submit a video essay on a topic selected each year.

Applications for the McPherson College Honors Collective open Nov. 1 and close on Feb. 15, 2027. Admission decisions will be announced in early March 2027, for the 2027-28 academic year.
