McPherson College is seeking a collaborative and pioneering leader for the position of VP for Student Life and Dean of Students. The VP designs and coordinates student-driven programs with faculty, Student Life team members and college-wide stakeholders, that attract potential students, enhance student development, promote retention and enrich the academic experience for all its students. This position leads its team-based approach to support the innovative design and delivery of student life programming in a variety of creative and engaging modalities. This position will effectively leverage existing resources while envisioning the future of a strategically planned residential campus. The VP will be aware of current trends in higher education and evaluate emerging practices and resources that align with the college’s strategic priorities. The VP supervises several staff including career, service and pastoral services, serves on the college president’s cabinet and reports directly to the college president.

The successful candidate will posses a master’s degree from an accredited college or university and will have four or more years of student services experience. The ability to work with individual students and student groups as well as the analysis and resolution of complex student services problems is required. It is essential to posses the skills to interact with a diverse student population, faculty, staff, parents, and the public. A strong knowledge of organizational, fiscal and personnel management is also required.

Staff Accompanist

McPherson College seeks a staff accompanist for the 2016-2017 academic year, which begins in August and ends in May. This is a temporary position and is not benefits eligible.

The Staff Accompanist is under the supervision of the Director of Choral Activities and serves as accompanist and musical support for student recitals, studio classes, lessons, seminars, ensembles, rehearsals, end-of-semester juries, hearings, auditions, and productions as assigned.

The successful candidate must be able to:

  • Sight-read and play complex repertoire with technical facility, stylistic understanding and artistry that covers a wide range of vocal and instrumental literature.
  • Demonstrate ability to prepare and perform repertoire for multiple rehearsals and performances.
  • Manage rehearsal and performance schedule with students/faculty/guest artists.
  • Perform as a collaborative artist/accompanist as needed.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher or extensive training and 3-5 years of experience
  • Demonstrated success as a professional accompanist with an ability to read open score.
  • A strong commitment to undergraduate education is essential and is in keeping with the needs and mission of the department.
  • The ideal candidate will demonstrate an interest in developing a comprehensive musical awareness in all students and will work effectively with faculty colleagues to enhance the offerings of a dynamic and growing department.
